Holiday Pictures ist der Versuch zu entfliehen. Die Vision, die dem Projekt zu Grund liegt, folgt der Sehnsucht und Neugier, gegebene geographische Zonen zu bereisen. Das Projekt dokumentiert eine fiktive Tagestour entlang der Küste des Mittleren Ostens: beginnend in Syrien, weiter in den Libanon und nach Israel, endend in Gaza, Palästina. Von Sonnenaufgang bis Sonnenuntergang.

Kein Bürger dieser Länder kann, unter den gegenwärtigen politischen Bedingungen, physisch den Küstenstrich in seiner ganzen Länge bereisen. Die Kommunikation zwischen den Menschen der verfeindeten Staaten ist illegal, gefährlich und in der Tat physisch unmöglich. Basierend auf dem Wunsch nach realer Kommunikation zwischen realen Menschen hat die israelische Performance-Künstlerin Anat Stainberg die per E-Mail übermittelten Fotografien der beteiligten Künstler zu einem Standbildfilm montiert, in dem sie die Rolle der Touristin einnimmt. Ein verstohlener Blick auf das, ?was sein könnte wenn?? Ein Dialog zwischen Video und Live-Performance.

Holiday Pictures wurde unter anderem im Tanzquartier Wien präsentiert (2006), beim Art in War-Festival in Utrecht (2006) und zuletzt 2008 im brut, Wien.

Die Installation/Ausstellung kann bis 8. November besucht werden.

"Holiday Pictures project" is an attempt to escape. It follows a big desire and curiosity to be able to "use the geography" for vacation. The project documents a fictional day tour along the middle-east coastline; starting in Syria, Lebanon, Israel and ending up in Gaza Palestine. From sunrise to sunset.

* No citizen of these countries can physically follow the coastline, along the whole of its stretch, under the present political circumstances.

* Furthermore, communication between citizens of the enemy countries is illegal, dangerous and in fact physically impossible (the phone companies do not have business agreements).

... Though communication between us is "impossible" we all desired it, as much as taking the risk of doing it .. the artists mentioned above e-mailed me images of "their" part of the coast, from which I edited a movie documenting a day of traveling along the Middle East coastline. Into the still images movie I inserted my animated tourist character, traveling on the coast from sunrise to sunset. "Peeping" into "what could have been if?"

The project is a dialogue between video and live performance by Anat Stainberg.
